This research aims to explore the benefits and negative effects of digital leisure as perceived by Generation Z students at a public university in Colombia. For this purpose, twenty (20) students from five (5) different programs were invited to participate in a written interview, where young people share their experiences about their leisure, mainly their digital leisure. The students comment on what they consider that this type of leisure brings them, as well as its negative effects. As results, it was found that the leisure of the students participating in this research is both digital and face-to-face leisure. Also, that young people relate the benefits of digital leisure to learning, connection with others and flow experiences; while the negative effects are related to distraction, addiction and loss of time. The latter can be explained through what in Leisure Studies is known as leisure boredom or boredom in leisure, where leisure experiences fail to meet the needs of people for their optimal development. Finally, the research ends with a reflection on the challenges faced by higher education institutions in relation to the digital leisure of young people, which must be balanced with a more face-to-face leisure and go beyond mere entertainment.
